End of Year Stats

Well, the year is officially over and it is now time to reflect.  We were pretty much average stats-wise from the past.  Matt steals the top attendance spot from Jeremy, proving he has less of a life.  Highlights from the year.......  Mike breaking his collarbone (although more of a lowlight), some great nights swimming at Mark's, Ali's crash (any one), arguing over attendance, seeing Liam a couple of times.  What did I miss?
The one thing we missed out on was a weekend away.  I propose that we vote on the weekend date shortly, then we will pick a place.  Stay tuned for a blog vote.
Things to keep an eye out for next year..... Rob's new bike, Russ????, Liam????, new routes thanks to the Parkway, Rod lasting longer than the first month, Ian's new bike???

.... And a Great End to the Year

I think we may be on to a new tradition.  Great idea Jeremy!  The pizzas were phenomenal and good to see everyone (well almost, but everyone important) out.  Perfect end to a great season.  Although some of you may still be riding, attendance is done.  I'll follow up in another post with end of year stats.  Of course who can forget the end of year constitution amendments.  While we didn't have a copy of the constitution on us, Jeremy recited it section by section.  Of course the biggest amendment was that not only does Ali have to host (except when it is really hot and Mark's pool looks better than Ali's), but he is also up for the first round of beers, now part of the beer order, has to supply 2 bags of chips every night (no ass-flavoured), has to be ready to go at 6:25 or his attendance point doesn't count for that night and has to host the Christmas Party.  Also, last night everyone earned 3 points for attendance and those who didn't show lost 3 three.  We had quorum.  So big changes in the attendance.
And what was with all those crotch shot text messages I was getting today??????

Carving, Crashing, Cold and Creemore

It was a little brisk but turned out to be a great night of riding. The trails were beautifully cleared and tacky but the log I bailed off of wasn't. That was crash number 1. I give it a 7 out of 10. After whipping through about 3/4 of the trail Mark took the second spill about a 6. The crash of the night went to a somersaulting Ali who went down hard with a perfect 10. After dusting himself off and clearing out the cobwebs (possibly with a mild concussion) he soldiered on.

We headed to the somewhat warmth of Mark's garage for some delicious Creemore's, (thanks Jim) and gorged on some chips. A great night all in all.

Hallowe'en

No ride tonight.... Hallowe'en.  Also, a reminder for some of you that don't know how to charge your lights.....be ready for next week.  Hopefully the weather will be a little better.

Entertaining Night

Not sure what was more entertaining tonight......... 4 wipeouts by one individual, 1 wipeout each by three others, watching Jeremy cry over the Tigers, or having many brown outs near the end of the ride and trying to find someone to lead.    For some, the night got off to a bad start with Rob "Brown Eye" Charlebois forgetting to charge his lights but not realizing it until we got to the trail head. For others, the tough part of the ride came when we hit the trail (Jay, Craig, Ali).  And lastly, the worst part of the night came for others while watching the Tigers game (Jeremy and Mark).
Possibly the best October 24th weather ever!  71 degrees at ride time.  Still, some people opted for long sleeves only to regret it.  Who would have thought we would be sitting around watching the World Series in Ali's backyard in shorts and t-shirts at this time of year.
Thanks to Jeremy for the brews and chips.  Much movement with the standings tonight.  Mark saves third place with his bag of chips.  Next up for beers is Jim.  However, no ride next week due to Hallowe'en.

Oh What a Night!

Gents,
And I use the term loosely, to quote Frankie Vallie, it was a fantastic night for riding!  Weather was stud like, food was gourmet and company was solid.  Matt the pasta salad and shrimp were delicious, as was the CHILL.  Mark, soups were fabulous and my class loved the end results! Ali thanks for hosting.
Those trails were in great shape, and ready for another ride next week.
For our Tigers slappys, we should think about getting out for a game at Shotz.  Think about it about put out some ideas.  Not every day the World Series is next door!  Next up for beers is  supposed to be Mark but I think he has provided enough beers here and there that we can skip him.  Jer, you are up next!

New Addition!

We'll it took some time but there is now a new addition to the Charlebois stable...
Introducing my new Trek Madone 6.5 {cue the AC/DC "Back in Black"}.
Weighing at a rumoured 15 lbs and just screaming to go fast, this beauty will make all future centuries much more enjoyable.  This bike has everything I was hoping for and then some. I haven't had much chance to ride yet but am looking forward to the next break in the weather.
Special thanks to Craig who brokered the deal, funded it (although he doesn't realize that yet... boohaa haa) and delivered it.  The colours are even sweet... goodbye white Stetson, here comes Back in Black!
No more Mr. Nice Guy on the road!

What a Feast!

Riders ready at 6:00 (I was taking the picture)
How many CRC riders does it take????
Kind of a different ride tonight.  Besides the loads of email chatter about where to ride, the weather didn't really cooperate, causing a number of weaker, less tough, smaller weenies, "it's too cold", "I don't feel good", girlie riders to bail on the ride.  However, the ride went on (see picture above).  Not to say that the ride was anything but smooth though.  For starters, Jay forgot the beer (hence, not in the picture).  Secondly, it was f****ing cold and windy.  We decided that since the wind was from the west we would head over to Little River and enjoy a nice tailwind on the way home (which we did).  We hit some singletrack at Little River and then it happened.  Mark got a flat.  No big deal.  How many and how long does it take CRC riders to change a flat? (see picture).  Very long as a matter of fact.  To the point where we were thinking we might miss dinner.

On to dinner..... what a feast!  Thanks to Roxanne (no Mike, you did not do anything) for cooking up amazing ribs and chilli.  Although I didn't have any desert, Matt assured me that the apple crust and ice cream were awesome.  Next up for beers is Matt.  Hopefully next week will be a littler warmer.

Beautiful Night

Beautiful night for a ride!  1:50 of riding time, almost all in the dark.  Nice to see a good turnout.  Thanks to Mark for providing us with some grub at the end and to Rob for finally bringing the beer.  Next week, change of venue.  Mike has promised us a special treat (don't get excited Jay) so we will be doing an east side ride.  We may do two groups one road, one not, or we may do mountain bikes on the road.  To be discussed over email later.  Maybe Rob can remember to bring the red dragon maybe Scott can get his virgin ride in.

And Then There Were 6

Mark patiently waiting for someone
Amazing how last week we had almost everyone out but this week only 6 showed.  Those that didn't show provided lame excuses at best, I am sick, I am tired, my back hurts, ..........You guys should have just done what Ali did, put a "cork" in it and ride.  Beautiful night for our first night ride and even though we pushed back our start time, someone was still not ready.  Wasn't Scotty who came prepared with a new set of sweet lights.  Big changes in attendance.  It is now a 4 way tie at the top.
Beer for next week is Rob (you better show!)
Good thing we had light tonight

Charge Up the Lights!

Ian powering up the hill
Kind of an unmotivated night tonight for many of us for various reasons.  The biggest news (other than Jim and Ali getting caught holding their weenies (not each others)) is that we are going to lights and 6:30 next week.  So don't wait until Tuesday night to make sure your lights are working (Jay, Dave).
We should probably discuss some kind of late penalty for Rob regarding the beer.  We were waiting for about half an hour and finally Mark showed up with bevvies left over from the weekend.  If it is your turn for beer.......Rob can't make next week so that means Dave, then Rob.

Ian also wants to add something to the constitution about if a fellow rider runs over your wheel and ruins it, there should be some sort of penalty.  Normally I would disagree but the rider in question has a long history of riding too close and constantly bumping wheels with others.  Clearly the fault here does not lie with Ian, even if he did take down half the forest in his crash.
Disappointed that no one blogged about the Michigan game festivities/shenanigans.  Was looking forward to the pics and stories of the day.  Oh wait, those that know how to blog don't even remember the day (Matt excluded).

Ian Goes Big

Wow!  Ian has outdone himself.  Not only did he provide nice and cold Stella's tonight, but he also went out to buy some chips (unnecessary, that is Mike's job and one that he has been seriously slacking at lately).  Great job Ian.  Next up for beers is Rob.  Hopefully he will be in good enough shape to provide the beer next week after pulling me for 100 miles over Collingwood hills.
Another change in the top attendance spot.  Matt has taken over Mark as the top attendance earner.  It doesn't matter that Mark was off doing a half-marathon somewhere.  He didn't get back in time to join the ride.  Congrats Matt!
Don't forget Michigan game this Saturday.  Stay tuned for details.  Did anyone read that email about Scott's kids needing their dad around????  Good one.

Another Hot Night

What a muggy night tonight.  The only thing that helped cool it down was the beer courtesy of Jim.  I guess we can give Ali full points even though he showed up late and apparently rode.  Personally I think he left his house around 7:45 and waited around the corner until he saw us return.  Good one. Next up for beers is Scotty (but he did just buy so let's skip him) and go with Ian then Rob.

The Nights Just Get Better and Better

I am very busy getting ready for another school year so this will be short.

  • Beautiful weather
  • Full crowd - the attendance leader.
  • Great trails: Morton, Malden and the new highway.
  • Good beer and chips
  • Thanks to Ali for hosting and leading the charge in the trails.
Back to school next week for some of us, don't worry we'll be okay.
Michigan game Sept 15th.  Next up for beer is Jim then Scott.

A Nice Night For A Crash!

On probably the nicest night of the year a packed CRC crew took to the trails for an out and back through Morton. The pace was fast and the falls were faster. Jeremy's bike after building great resentment for the Boyne, "Bike Toss", incident a few years back, finally got it's revenge. Jeremy did his best Superman impression over the bars and ended up with a nasty gash on his arm. Later in the ride Mark tried to knock over a tree but did not succeed.

Liam brought a nice assortment of pops and much of the discussion revolved around the upcoming Michigan game on the 15th.

Everyone is looking forward to Ali's next feast and next week could be the end of the perfect attendance for our host.

Thanks to Liam and Mark for providing drink and hospitality.

Michigan Game

Gents,
That time of year is fast approaching again!  Lets try to make plans to go to our annual game before everyone's schedules are set.... that way we can have a descent turnout.

Looking at the schedule, these two home games look like our only options really:  Both have the late 3:30 start time giving us plenty of time to tailgate.

Saturday September 8th - 3:30PM start vs Air Force
Saturday September 15th - 3:30PM start vs Massachusetts

I'll start the voting....  September 15th works better for me... but I would still go even on the 8th.

Then There Were Four

Four dedicated riders hit the trails for a fast paced ride. Ali led a nice pace clad in his new boys sized shorts. We hit a tacky Morton and then took on the Malden race course (which Mark and Jeremy quickly fell in love with) and concluded with, "The Hill." (insert accent).

Upon our arrival no one showed with chips but Mark laid out a feast fit for a kingdom. Jeremy, Mark and myself gorged on salads, meats and cheeses. Mark ended our night with some ice cream!  Up for beer next week is Liam.  Just a reminder, it is an import week so Stella, Guiness, Bass would all suffice.

Did You Bring a Tube With You?????

Rob smiling because he just made a lot of money
It was an unfortunate lesson in supply and demand tonight (or as Dave calls it, "mountain bike economics") for one unprepared CRC rider.  Helmet? Check.  Shoes? Check.  Water?  Check.  Extra tube and pump? Che......  nope!  Instead this rider would rather pay outrageous trailside prices for a tube, pump, and tire lever (I know it was only needed it for a second, but remember, we charge by the hour) when he gets a flat.
Fortunately for Jeremy I just happened to have my phone handy when he came down with an "illness" and couldn't ride.  Hhhhhmmmmm...... let's see, Jeremy has missed 2 rides in 2 years and suddenly he is sick on probably the only night he has to bring beer.  Isn't that convenient Adrian.... I mean Jeremy?  Lucky for him I stepped up and covered him.
View waiting for the tire to be changed
How the mighty have fallen.  In one night 3 of the 4 top attendance earners missed out.  And they missed out on a ton of singletrack.  Morton twice.  However, my computer said only 23 km.  It must have been a fast 23 km though as both Jim and Scotty went down.

Next up for beer is Jeremy (unless he is "sick" again), then Rod (but I am guessing he is done for the season), Liam, Jim.  Don't forget Jacquesfest Olympic-style this Friday!

Wednesday, August 1, 2012

Hot!

A hot night tonight.  It was amazing that Mr. Heat didn't pay a visit.  Good ride for most of us.  Mousseau mysteriously disappears to "ride the race course" only to be found sipping on a cold one at Mark's.  The rest of the group got divided up.  Those that chose to follow Ali, and those that chose not to.  I won't say what group I was in but lets just say I was among the last to return to Mark's.  At least we hit 30km tonight.
Rumour has it that many CRC members high on the attendance list will be dropping a few spots in the coming weeks.....except Jeremy of course.  Next up for beers is Jeremy.  Then we are back to the top.  Rod then Liam.

First One on the New Highway?

Were members of CRC the first people (non-workers) to actually ride on the new highway?  Just think how good it will be when they actually put some pavement down.  Reverse order tonight, Malden first.  Malden is looking a little rough right now.  Morton however was in phenomenal shape.  Good ride 1:30, 20 km.  Thanks to Scotty who brought the "premium" beer.  Next up is Matt then Jeremy.  Thanks again for the swim Mark.

Attendance

Wow, Jeremy finally missed a week!  Must have been something serious to keep him away.  There seems to be a bunch of guys who have no life at the top of the attendance and then a big drop off to the others that do.  Scotty is bringing beer next week.

CRC in Horseshoe Valley

Team CRC headed to the gruelling hills of Horseshoe Valley, ON for a Centurion race this weekend. The team all completed the course in under 3 hours for a very successful outing. Mike Smith had great success finishing 5th in his age category:)

One incident, while stopped in the feed zone another rider took it upon himself to ram Jim from behind (literally). Luckily Jim was okay just a little sad that the guy didn't stay to cuddle.

Jim, Mike, Matt, Mark

It was a great event and is something for all to think about next year!!!!

Nice to see Scotty back out.  Smitty's attendance has been frozen, although I did give him a half point for chips.  Nearing the bottom of the beer list.  Smitty is up next.

CRC Off-Bike Training

Due to the high level of dedication, training and commitment to the sport of cycling.  CRC members have a unique off-bike training program.  It also helps that many of them are unemployed.

Beautiful Night For A Ride

As you can see I am very busy on this Thursday morning.

Last night it was wet and wild like a trip to Ali's love den. We headed out to Malden to test out the new race course (a roadies dream), we were soon hit by the torrential downpours, and downed trees blocking the trail. One safety conscious rider decided to brave, "the hill" in the light show (note he did not make the top). We then took shelter and shared biking tips with the children of Asia.

After a impromptu weather report by Chuck Jacques (see below) we braved the storm and the downed power lines. After making it home safe and sound we gorged on chips and delicious beer. Thanks to Jay and Mark for the hospitality and the treats! Next up for beer is Mike, however not sure he is up for it.  If not, Craig is up next. Now back to my work.

Wednesday, June 27, 2012

Hot, hot, hot!!!!

It was a hot one tonight.  That might explain the poor turnout.  No Smitty (we should start a game, "Where in the World is Mike?"), no Jim (wife wouldn't let him out because she was too busy celebrating end of school year), no Rob (he didn't want to listen to the teachers celebrating), no Liam (ok reason not to ride, but what about beers?), no Ali..... oops sorry Ali was there.  I just never saw him because he was at the front of the pack all night.  That might explain all the cuts on my arms and legs as he led us through a quick pace of Morton and then he wanted to make sure we hit every hill and overgrown trail at Malden.

Did I mention that tomorrow is many members of CRC's last day of work????  Jay and Matt wanted to cut the ride short so they weren't too tired to open gifts tomorrow and give their students a proper send off (movies).  I too don't want to overdo it on this post as I have to get up early tomorrow (8:30) and make sure my students have a full instructional day.
Thanks to Mark for providing a pool and beer again.  Next week is Jay, then Mike (if he is ever in town that is).  One last thing.... now that our school year is done, the 10:00 limit has been lifted. :)

The Heat is ON !!

With the temperatures soaring in the 90s the CRC still managed a good turnout this week riding the usual trails through Black Oak and Malden in just under 2 hours.  The ride was started late, thanks to Mr Heat himself who held up the ride for 10 minutes... he strolled in late, fumbled around getting ready, then put in a lackadaisical effort on the trails.... but at least he didn't overheat, so we'll give him that.

All things considered, the group had a good ride, (except for myself who bailed and fell on my ass, and it still hurts today)  then were rewarded by jumping into Mark's pool to cool off... thanks Mark for hosting, and thanks to Ali for providing a tasty meal.

Next up for beer is Smitty I think... Dave you already got a case right?

CRC in the News

Congratulations to the fittest member of our clan, one Liam Higgins, who proudly represented Chain Reaction Cycling (although he never mentioned us in the article) in the Windsor Star.  Liam accurately portrayed what it takes to be a member of CRC, off-biking workouts and beers...

We’re heavier, drink more ... but are happier: survey

Windsor-Essex residents more prone to disease

Liam Higgins works out on a rowing machine Tuesday, June 19, 2012, at the Windsor Squash and Fitness Club in Windsor, Ont. A report suggests that people in the Windsor/Essex region are generally not fit.       Windsor and Essex County residents tend to be more overweight, more prone to disease, heavier smoking and harder drinking than the average Ontarian.
       And we’re slightly shorter-lived.
But at least we’re smiling: We’re a tiny bit ahead of the provincial curve when it comes to our estimations of our mental health.
The figures can be found in the June 2012 regional health profiles that Statistics Canada released on Tuesday as part of the results of its annual Canadian Community Health Survey.
Data for our area is organized under two profiles: One for the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit and the other for the Erie St. Clair Health Integration Network.
In both profiles, more than 61 per cent of the region’s residents are identified as overweight or obese — compared to an Ontario average of 52 per cent.
Both profiles also show higher-than-average rates for arthritis, diabetes, high blood pressure, stroke and cancer.
At least 22 per cent of us are current smokers (daily or occasional), compared to an Ontario-wide figure of 18.9 per cent.
When it comes to heavy drinkers, the Erie St. Clair LHIN tallied 19.8 per cent of residents and the WECHU tallied 20.6 per cent of residents. The provincial average is 15.9 per cent.
A local health and fitness club is hoping they have the secret to draw in residents from the region. Ever since Windsor Squash and Fitness opened in 1973, they’ve served alcohol in addition to snacks and other beverages.
“It’s just an overall atmosphere thing. We like to make people as comfortable here and if that means you play squash with your buds for an hour then feel like sitting down to have a Bud, than I guess we’re the right place for you,” said club manager Dave Porter. “I mean alcohol makes people happier, fitness makes people happier, we’re just everything together in one happy place.”
Porter said it’s good to hear that people in the area seem to be happier in comparison to the average Ontarian but adding a good habit, like working out, to existing bad habits can improve those numbers even more.
For Liam Higgins, who has been a member of the club for 16 years, the reward of having a couple of beers and friends to hang out with at the end of a workout makes it worth the effort.
“The club’s been a God-send as far as meeting people. For me, it’s not just working out when I come here. It’s a social thing,” said Higgins. “It’s a little bit of an anomaly with this club because when you finish your workout, you can go and have a beer, and there’s probably not too many fitness facilities that do that, but I think it’s great.”
Life expectancy in the Erie St. Clair LHIN region is 80.3 years. In the WECHU region, it’s 80.7 years.
The average life expectancy for the entire province is 81.5 years.
Maybe part of the problem is that we don’t eat fruits and vegetables as much as other Ontarians. Across the province, an average of 43.2 per cent of residents said they eat fruits and vegetables five or more times a day. In WECHU region, that figure drops to 36.3 per cent. In the Erie St. Clair LHIN region, it drops to 35.6 per cent.
The figures also show that fewer residents of both regions feel a “sense of community belonging” and “life satisfaction” compared to the Ontario average.
And yet, when it comes to mental health, 75.3 per cent of WECHU region residents and 75.1 Erie St. Clair LHIN region residents reported theirs as “very good or excellent.” That’s actually a bit better than the provincial average of 74.3 per cent.
Most of the figures didn’t come as a surprise Windsor’s Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Allen Heimann.
“Certainly, some of the major points such as cigarettes, alcohol and weight — these are things we’ve been concerned about for some time,” Heimann said on Tuesday.
However, there were pieces of data that Heimann found unexpected. For example, the asthma rate for the WECHU region is 7.2 per cent — lower than the Ontario average of 8.3 per cent.
“I would’ve thought that figure to be higher, given where we are — Generally higher pollen counts, more allergens, more days of heat, more days with poor air quality index,” Heimann said.
While the WECHU region’s overall current smoker rate remains worse than the provincial average, Heimann pointed out that our present rate for daily smokers (18 per cent) is significantly lower than it was in 2003 (25 per cent).
“So that’s a good thing,” he said. “That’s one area we’ve focused on.”
Asked why there hasn’t been more dramatic change in the region’s other problem health categories, given the WECHU’s education efforts over the years, Heimann said that instilling healthy behaviours isn’t quite as simple as telling people what they should do.
“The difficulty with modifying health behaviours is that it’s ‘multifactorial.’ You’ve got to deal with multiple issues. It’s not just education,” Heimann said.
Dr. Martin Lees, primary care lead for the Erie St. Clair LHIN, had similar thoughts.
“That is the big question in health care,” Lees said. “Changing behaviour characteristics in large populations is a notoriously difficult thing to do, and a very complex undertaking.”
“We know that the population has been like this for quite some time,” Lees said. “I wish I had the answer … It can take generations to see change.”

Good Turnout

Mike and Matt discussing best hair
gel to wear with a helmet
Waiting to cross construction zone
Good turnout tonight.  Almost everyone was out.  The only people that didn't ride must not have been able to find a fresh pair of panties.  Thanks to Jim and Mark for pushing the pace and finishing Malden Park on a wonderful climb (sarcasm).  Good ride overall, approximately 32 km covered in 1:45ish.  Huge thanks to Jim for finally coming through with a case of beer (although that almost wasn't enough).  We were going to send him back out for another when he came up with some lame excuse about having to go practice gymnastics (don't know, I only heard part of the conversation).   Also nice to be back on familiar grounds (thanks Ali!) and lots of laughs.  However, Ali did you not tell the neighbour that we ride on Wednesday and not to cut their grass that day????  Next up for beer is Rob.
Post ride bevvie.  Thanks Ali!

Is Cycling the New Golf?

from the Globe and Mail.....

Cycling is the new golf’: The rise of an on-trend activity

They’re an increasingly common sight on country roads: packs of cyclists, often wearing matching jerseys advertising their favourite charity, pumping out the kilometres in pursuit of some good cause.  The charity bicycle event has swelled from almost nothing a decade ago to become a major player in Canadian fundraising efforts. Helped by cycling’s rising popularity, there are rides in every part of the country. Tens of millions of dollars have been generated for the fight against cancer, diabetes, heart and stroke disease, multiple sclerosis and myriad other causes.
“Cycling is the on-trend activity,” Paul Alofs, president and CEO of the Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation, said Friday. “Cycling is the new golf.”  Mr. Alofs, who was gearing up to participate over the weekend in the Ontario edition of the Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer, during which nearly 5,000 riders raised $18.1-million for the foundation, said the event started in response to research showing a noticeable growth of riders.
It’s a trend seen across the country. Cycling Canada said recently that its number of licensed riders – 10,000 competitive and 24,000 recreational – has been growing at about 10 per cent annually. The Bicycle Trade Association of Canada says that sales by independent retailers jumped 21 per cent from 2009 to 2010, climbing to $250-million.
Some attribute it to the Lance Armstrong effect, arguing that the seven-time Tour de France winner helped popularize the sport in North America. Others believe it is driven by boomers seeking a lower-impact activity than running. And the rise of CervĂ©lo is often cited as a factor – the Canadian company makes top-line bikes, including those ridden to victory by British Columbian Ryder Hesjedal in the Giro d’Italia last month.
Whatever the reason, numerous charities have benefitted from the new popularity, the biggest of them raising millions each.
The Becel Heart & Stroke Ride for Heart, on one of Toronto’s main highways, has boosted its fundraising in each of the past four years, from $2.9-million in 2009 to $5-million this year. For two years running, they have maxed out with about 13,000 participants.
In a twist that lets rider keep raising funds in the fall, when weather become iffier, the Ride for Diabetes Research is done inside on spinning bikes. With more than 22,000 participants at locations across the country last year, the events raised more than $7.2-million. They are aiming for $7.9-million this year.
And more than 10,000 people are expected to participate this year in the 22 one- or two-day MS Bike Tour events taking place nationwide between this month and September.
The Ride to Conquer Cancer holds separate events across the country. Last year, 11,665 riders raised a total of $43.8-million: in British Columbia ($11-million); Alberta ($8.6-million); Ontario ($17.5-million); and Quebec ($6.7-million). Including totals from this weekend’s ride, between Toronto and Niagara, it has raised nearly $150-million nationwide in the past five years.
“It is motivating beyond belief to ride in a very large group of likeminded people,” said Mr. Alofs.

Long Day

Saturday was a real long day for some CRC members.  Craig, Rob and Ali rode in the Tour deCure in Brighton, MI.  Our goal was to beat last years 6:20 (which we did 6:10) however because someone (and we really don't know who) does not know how to read signs we ended up doing "a little" extra.  Yep, 187 km and 3700 feet of climbing later we crossed the finish line.  So really we rode for 7 hours.  Good thing we started at 7am.  No pictures were taken as we were too dam tired to take any.  Best part of the day, coldie pops in Meijer parking lot.

DNF's and a Poor Result From a Top Rider

Just a guess, but that might have been one of the best nights this season to ride.  Solid temperature, terrain and banter.  A fine showing was put forth by Jeremy who finished first (leaving Mark's) and did show up for another great trail ride.  Kudos to Jer for taking the heat and lumps for his weekend slip up.
My attempt to catch a picture of the group going through
the woods

Now to the real matter at hand......one of our top riders, James Hadjissaris (excuse the spelling errors) committed arguably the biggest blunder in CRC history by having a  Did Not Show, DNS for short, when it was his week for the bevies.  Jim, Jim, Jim what to do???  The committee will decide your fate, but you knew the rules when you joined.  Thanks to Mark (again) and Dave for bucking up for the last minute beer.  Next up for beer is Jim H and Jim H.
Great ride and good luck to our CRC members in their respective events and races tonight and Saturday.  Be safe and ride hard (that's what she said).

Mr. Heat
