Rides

Anyone who has ridden somewhere out of town (either on road or trail) and wants to post information about the ride to save others time looking for rides, let's post them here and build a collection of out of town rides.

Orlando/Kissimmee- This ride starts out a little busy and narrow (they were widening the road when I did it).  Once you reach Ronald Reagan Parkway, you are greeted with a nice quiet, wide road, complete with a bike lane.  From here your options are limitless.  Another surprising thing was the hills.  You are looking at about 100 feet of climbing.

Waterloo-Pinkney Road ride- Pinkney, Michigan- 50 km of rolling hills

Bartlett Road- Lake Placid, New York- If you do this full route, it will be 3,000 feet of climbing. This ride has to be done on your mountain bike, all dirt double track.

Whiteface Mountain- Lake Placid, New York- Voted one of America's Best Descents.  17 km of climbing (3600ft).  Great downhill. 2 hourish ride.

KOA to Lake Placid- Lake Placid, New York- A nice ride into town and back from the campground or if you stay in that area.  Slightly uphill all the way into town.  About and hour ride.

Flume Mountain Bike Trail System, Lake Placid, New York- found right at the base of Whiteface.

Torch Lake- Bellaire, Michigan- The Ride Around Torch is an annual (usually around mid-July) ride of 26, 63, or 100 miles along the shores of Torch Lake.  Torch Lake is one of Michigan's longest and one of its most beautiful inland lakes with unusually clear, bright turquoise hued waters.

Hardwood Hills- Barrie, Ontario- the best mountain biking trails around (located just north of Barrie).  A lot of climbing, incredible singletrack, very well maintained, and very well mapped out.

Collingwood #1-  A very challenging road ride.  You climb about a 10% grade for 20 minutes until the terrain "levels" out and it becomes a series of whoopdies.  Very fun.  It finishes with a wicked steep, technical descent.  Make sure your brakes are working.  Anticipate about 1:30.

Toronto (Don Valley Area)-  It is called Crothers park and it is very fun and challenging.  The easiest place to start is the corner of the Loblaws parking lot (55 Redway Rd).  Start on the trail by going right and following it. At some point there is a map on a board (there is one on this link also). There are lots of ladders and stuff but you can go around them.
